The Manchester Evening News have reported that Tottenham’s interest in Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey is deemed ‘more concrete’ than Manchester United. Arsenal have also been linked with the right-back.
Lamptey, 21, has been strongly linked with a move away from Brighton as he continues to shine on the right side of Graham Potter’s side. He has only played 35 times for Brighton since joining the club from Chelsea in 2020.
But that is largely down to a long-term hamstring issue. Fit again, interest has returned in the race to sign the right-back and the Express claimed earlier this month that Tottenham and Arsenal were interested in him.
A fee of £50million is said to be being requested by Brighton, with the Manchester Evening News stating United are also keen. However, United’s interest is said to less concrete than that of Tottenham’s desire to sign him.
Tottenham ‘more concete’, but which club is best for Lamptey?
Of the three clubs said to be after Lamptey, Tottenham are certainly in need more. Emerson Royal is struggling to shine at Spurs, while Matt Doherty and Japhet Tanganga are being linked with moves away from the club.
Arsenal have only just signed Takehiro Tomiyasu and it would be a struggle for Lamptey to start. At £50million, he is too expensive a signing not to start. United do need a right-back, but have Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diego Dalot.
So, a move to Tottenham would make most sense – but could Spurs afford to sign the London-born ace? Perhaps a compromise on a fee, or a player included in the deal might convince Potter and Brighton to accept.
