According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur insiders have indicated that the club ‘always’ thought Gareth Bale’s loan could be a two-year deal.
A club source has suggested that Spurs were never going to make an early decision on Bale even despite a difficult season.
Instead, Spurs were ‘always’ going to wait until the summer, and have similarly always expected that a deal for Bale to stay next season is on the cards.
“We were always going to make our decision then and always thought it could turn into a two-year loan,” the source is quoted as saying.
It’s interesting that this claim is emerging now rather than, say, a month ago when Bale was offering very little.
The Welshman was superb in Tottenham’s 4-0 thrashing of Burnley on Sunday, scoring twice in a thumping victory.
Bale also scored against Wolfsberger on Thursday night and picked up an assist against West Ham United last weekend, showing that his form is coming back.
It has taken Bale a while to get going, but Spurs will now hope to see him continue this excellent period for some time yet.
If he does, Spurs may look to keep Bale for another year – and that’s certainly what parent club Real Madrid would like to see.
