French outlet RMC Sport have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are set to do battle with European giants Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid for Marseille winger Florian Thauvin this summer.

The 25-year-old has starred for Marseille during the 2017-18 campaign, ripping up Ligue 1 and starring in Marseille’s pursuit to the final of the Europa League.

A part of Didier Deschamps’ 23-man World Cup squad, the France international has scored a huge 26 goals from out wide this season as well as turning provider a further 18 times.

His explosive form has caught the eye of Spurs, as well as their European counterparts, in what is a stark contrast to the form that saw him labelled a flop during his time with Newcastle United.

Signed by The Toon in August 2015 from Marseille, Thauvin managed just 16 appearances before rejoining the French outfit on loan in January 2016. He did the same during 2016-17, before a move was made permanent last summer.

Mauricio Pochettino is seemingly a fan of Thauvin, after the Daily Mail claimed Spurs rivalled Newcastle for his signature back in 2015.

Though he is a much improved player from his time on Tyneside, there are doubts over whether Thauvin can thrive in English football with the physicality of the Premier League proving too much for Thuavin last time around.

The Marseille star has three years remaining on his contract with the French outfit, though he may be tempted with a return to the Premier League to prove his doubters wrong. However, a move to Atletico or Bayern would prove equally as tantalising.
