Tottenham Hotspur need to sign a new centre back this summer, but Nikola Maksimovic won’t be a name fans are dreaming of landing.
Milan Skriniar, Eder Militao, Diego Carlos… that’s the calibre of centre back Spurs fans are looking for as Jose Mourinho weighs up his options.
Joe Rodon looks good, but Davinson Sanchez is inconsistent, Toby Alderweireld’s future is in doubt and Eric Dier is out of favour after a difficult season.
A big capture is needed at centre back to play alongside Rodon, and Torino Granata claim that Spurs are in the mix to sign Maksimovic this summer.
It’s suggested that Roma, Fiorentina, Porto and West Ham United are also keen on Maksimovic, with the chances of a new deal at Napoli now considered to be ‘almost zero’.
Torino could look to bring Maksimovic back to the club having spent three years with them between 2013 and 2016, but Spurs being interested is fascinating.
Spazio Napoli reported in January that Spurs were plotting a move for Maksimovic, so this new rumour isn’t much of a shock.

The 29-year-old is is out of contract this summer, meaning he could be a bargain addition for Spurs, and agent Fali Ramadani will be working hard to find his client a big move.
Maksimovic doesn’t really fit the bill as a top centre back, and has started just 12 league games this season. He’s 30 later this year, he isn’t particularly quick and hasn’t been able to nail down football with Napoli; is that what Spurs really want?
Carlo Ancelotti called Maksimovic ‘excellent’ back in 2018, meaning he has clearly impressed at times, but it’s hard to feel that Tottenham signing the Serbian as their major centre back addition would be anything other than underwhelming.
