According to a report in the Daily Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is ready to bid £30 million to bring Everton midfielder Andre Gomes to White Hart Lane.

Gomes has impressed hugely in his first season of English football, and Spurs have kept tabs on his progress.

Everton are planning to bring Gomes in permanently from Barcelona, but Tottenham want to rival the Merseyside club by signing him.

Spurs did similar with Toby Alderweireld, who caught the eye on a loan spell with Southampton, before the Lilywhites swooped to take him.

Tottenham now believe that they could steal Gomes from under Everton’s noses, as they have may have more to offer him.

Spurs are still battling it out for Champions League football, and their new stadium should be a big draw for players in the summer.

Mauricio Pochettino’s budget for the upcoming transfer window is still not known, but it is thought that Levy is prepared to spend – with Gomes potentially in line to become Tottenham’s first signing for well over a year.
