Mateo Kovacic has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur throughout the transfer window so far.

According to Dario Gol, Tottenham Hotspur will have to break their transfer record if they are to sign Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid this summer.

Spurs have been linked with the Croatian midfielder, who could be set to leave Madrid this summer.

Real Madrid's Mateo Kovacic looks dejected after the match

Zinedine Zidane’s side’s decision to bring in Dani Ceballos has knocked Kovacic down the pecking order at the Bernabeu Stadium.

And Tottenham are now said to be looking to do a deal for the 23-year-old.

Kovacic offers energy and skill, and may wish to move on from Madrid, with his first-team chances looking limited.

Spurs will have to spend big and break their transfer record if they are to sign him though.

Madrid are said to want at least £33 million for the midfielder, who they will not sell cheaply.

Tottenham are the only Premier League side yet to make a new signing so far during the transfer window.
