Tottenham Hotspur have been long-term admirers of Everton’s Ross Barkley.

Ross Barkley of Everton celebrates scoring his sides first goal during the Premier League match between Everton and Watford at Goodison Park on May 12, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

According to a report on the Gambling Times, Everton want £20 million for Ross Barkley in January – but Tottenham Hotspur are not willing to meet that asking price.

Tottenham have been targeting Barkley for some time, with Mauricio Pochettino keen to snap up the midfielder.

However, the deal remains problematic at this stage, due to Everton’s asking price.

The Toffees want £20 million for Barkley, but his contract is due to expire at the end of the season.

Tottenham know that they could sign Barkley for free in six months’ time, and feel that his current asking price is over inflated.

Ross Barkley of Everton and Hector Bellerin of Arsenal clash during the Premier League match between Arsenal and Everton at Emirates Stadium on May 21, 2017 in London, England.

As a result, Spurs are prepared to wait to see whether Everton drop their valuation of Barkley in January.

Spurs are willing to pay a fee for the 24-year-old, but do not want to over-pay for a player they could get on a free in such a short space of time.
