Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa as a potential replacement for Harry Kane, according to The Sun.

The report in the British tabloid has claimed that should Kane leave, then Spurs have identified Villa striker Watkins – as well as Southampton striker Danny Ings – as a possible replacement.

This is not the first time that Spurs have been linked with Watkins.

The North London club actually wanted the England international striker last summer before he made the move from Brentford to Villa for £28 million (BBC Sport).

The 25-year-old said on Sky Sports Super 6 this month that Tottenham were “interested” in him but as a back-up to Kane.

Interestingly, in the same interview, the English striker said that he is an Arsenal fan, and that he would have made a “dream” move to the Gunners had they come calling.

Watkins said on Sky Sports Super 6 when asked if he would have joined Arsenal if they had come calling: “Yeah, I think so. Yeah. My Grandad, all my family [supported them]. I even said it when I was at Brentford and I said it would be a dream to play for Arsenal and I loved them growing up.”

Watkins would clearly love to play for Arsenal, but he is also a professional.

Matt Doherty is also an Arsenal fan, but the defender did move to Tottenham last summer.

Watkins has done well in the Premier League this season and has shown that strikers from the Championship can succeed in the English top flight.

The 25-year-old scored 14 goals and gave five assists in 37 Premier League games for Villa this season.
