Swansea City reportedly balked at the high asking price for the 24-year-old.
A report in the South Wales Evening Post has suggested the asking price Tottenham Hotspur have for their out of favour midfielder Tom Carroll – and it is certainly an ambitious one.
Swansea City have an interest in signing the player, who has previously impressed on loan at the Liberty Stadium.
However, the report claims that Swansea balked at the asking price Spurs have for the midfielder – of £10 million.
Tottenham’s Tom Carroll celebrates after scoring
That is certainly a staggering price-tag for a player who cannot get into the Tottenham first-team.
The 24-year-old has fallen further down the pecking order at Spurs recently, with Harry Winks overtaking him and with the arrival of Victor Wanyama in the summer.
With that in mind it does look as if Carroll’s time at Spurs could be coming to an end.
But £10 million is a staggering price to pay for a player who has sporadically appeared in Premier League action.
Tottenham’s Tom Carroll looks dejected at the end of the match
Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has a reputation for being a hard negotiator and in this instance, it would appear no different.
Carroll will no doubt be hoping that something can be put together soon, as he needs to be playing regular first-team football.
But at that price Spurs will be struggling to get him out the door.
