Tottenham Hotspur have been chasing the Lyon midfielder for much of the summer so far.
The French side’s president, Jean-Michel Aulas, is said to be becoming frustrated with the length of time it is taking Tottenham to agree a final price with Lyon for the central midfielder.
When speaking to the press this week, Aulas said that Lyon would ramp the price up to £72 million for Ndombele if Spurs don’t complete a deal with the next seven days.
“If I wait another 8 days, it will be €80m…Tottenham made us an opening offer worth €45m. Then, we discussed more. Nothing is done, I can assure you,” he said.
There is a general feeling that Aulas’s words are simply a warning to put pressure on Spurs to do a deal.
However, the Telegraph claim that if the Lyon president does carry out his threat and raise the price then Tottenham are likely to miss out on Ndombele, with Daniel Levy set to walk away from the deal.
The report claims that Spurs are unlikely to pay the £72 million Lyon could demand for Ndombele from next week, with Spurs preferring to get the deal done for around £55 million.
If Tottenham do miss out on Ndombele now it would be a huge disappointment at White Hart Lane.
The 22-year-old did appear on the verge of a move to Spurs, and while it is still not time to panic, Daniel Levy is under pressure to get the deal wrapped up sooner rather than later.
