According to a report in the Independent, Tottenham Hotspur are set to miss out on Malcom, as Daniel Levy refused to meet Bordeaux’s asking price for the Brazilian youngster.

Tottenham had targeted Malcom, and were prepared to pay £31 million for the striker.

However, Arsenal decided they were willing to pay £40 million for the forward, and that looks to have been enough to bring Malcom to the Emirates Stadium.

Malcom is expected to sign at Arsenal in the coming days, as the Gunners look to replace the departing Alexis Sanchez.

Spurs, meanwhile, will have to look at other targets, as Levy has refused to budge again.

Levy has a reputation as a tough negotiator, and he has been prepared to allow Spurs to miss out on Malcom for the sake of saving £9 million.

While that may prove a shrewd choice, if Tottenham invest in the future, he also risks the wrath of Spurs fans if Malcom hits the ground running at Arsenal.

Tottenham are locked in a battle for the top four spots, and if Malcom does start firing for Arsenal, Levy may regret not rivalling his side’s rivals for the 20-year-old’s signature.
