The Belgian defender’s current contract with Tottenham expires in 2019 so Daniel Levy must get to work.

Tottenham Hotspur will meet with Toby Alderweireld this weekend with the offer of a bumper new contract for the Belgian defender around the corner, according to The Independent.
The Independent reports that Alderweireld’s current deal with Spurs expires in 2019 and, although the Londoners have the option to extend by 12 months, this would trigger a £25m release clause.
That would be an absolute bargain for any potential suitor in this market, with the 28-year-old having established a reputation as one of the finest centre-backs in Europe in his three seasons at Spurs.

Alderweireld wants a new contract and salary befitting of this status, and The Independent understands that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is willing to break his strict wage structure to keep him and Harry Kane.
However, a record of three defeats and two draws from 11 Premier League games during his ongoing hamstring layoff has highlighted Alderweireld’s importance as Tottenham’s second most influential player.

Levy will sit down with Alderweireld and his agent later this week, and sources close to the former Ajax defender told The Independent they believe the meeting signals an imminent contract offer.
Spurs picked up Alderweireld for only £11.4m from Atletico Madrid in 2015 – fee according to The Guardian – after he had been promised to Southampton following a season-long loan spell at St Mary’s.
