Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is desperate to play in Wednesday’s Champions League showdown with Real Madrid, according to The Times.
The England international missed Saturday’s defeat to Manchester United with a minor hamstring injury.
The Times reports that Kane is pleading with manager Mauricio Pochettino to pass him fit for the visit of the European Champions to Wembley.
Pochettino is cautious over rushing Kane back but appears to be optimistic that his key player is ready to return.
“With the doctors and the player, we will take the best decision for everyone,” Pochettino is quoted by The Times as saying.
“It’s not the last game or the final where you would say: ‘OK, after that it’s holidays.’ We must analyse and take the best decision for everyone. We will assess him and then make the best decision. My feeling is good. But it’s not my feeling, it’s Harry Kane’s feeling.”
Kane was badly missed at Old Trafford as Pochettino went with Son Heung-min to lead the line.
The South Korean was ineffective against United’s back three and Pochettino would be smart to have a rethink for the match against the Spanish giants.
The partnership of Kane and Fernando Llorente occupied the Madrid defence well in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Real at the Bernabeu earlier this month.
If Kane says that he is ready, Pochettino will be relieved to have him back for a match which could decide who tops Champions League Group H.
