Tottenham star was reportedly left out for tactical reason.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen is ‘not happy’ after being left out of the opening day starting line up, report The Times.
Vertonghen did not even make the bench for Tottenham’s game at home to Aston Villa.
Mauricio Pochettino chose to start with Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez.
The Times reports Pochettino left Vertonghen out for ‘tactical reasons’.
It is suggested Pochettino wanted attackers on the bench rather than defenders, with Eric Dier’s versatility making him capable of filling in at centre-back if required.

The background to this is Vertonghen not signing a new contract, his current deal set to expire in a year.
But Christian Eriksen is in the same boat, and he was on the bench, and came on to help Tottenham earn a 3-1 win.
Tottenham’s next game is away at Manchester City, and it will be interesting to see if Vertonghen is recalled to the squad.
