Tottenham Hotspur are showing a ‘strong interest’ in Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam, report Italian website Calciomercato.
Ghoulam, 26, is a regular for the Serie A side but his future at the club is in doubt with his contract set to expire in 2018.
The Italian outlet report Tottenham have made an enquiry with Napoli, and are competing with Chelsea, Arsenal and Atletico Madrid for his signature.
Ghoulam is an Algerian international who featured at the 2014 World Cup, and helped Napoli reach the knockout stages of the Champions League this season.
Knock on effect
If Tottenham push ahead with a move to sign Ghoulam, it would surely spell the end for defender Kevin Wimmer at the club.
Tottenham’s Kevin Wimmer reacts
The Austrian international has been out of favour this season even despite a shift at times to a back three, with Mauricio Pochettino preferring to play Eric Dier or Ben Davies in the position.
The Evening Standard reported last month that Spurs will listen to offers for Wimmer at the end of the season, and their reported interest in Ghoulam indicates they are pushing ahead with their plans by looking at his potential replacement.
