Report: Tottenham Hotspur scouts made error with James Maddison

Tottenham Hotspur allowed Leicester City to sign James Maddison from Norwich City in the summer.

According to the London Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur decided against moving for Leicester City’s James Maddison this summer.

Spurs had been tracking Maddison for some time, and were impressed by how well he performed at Norwich City last season.

However, Tottenham’s scouts informed Mauricio Pochettino that Maddison was not good enough for his first-team.

Spurs’ staff felt that the attacking midfielder lacked the technical ability to be able to perform in their side.

Tottenham’s failure to move allowed Leicester to swoop in and sign Maddison for £22 million (Standard).

At the time, Spurs felt that Leicester had overpaid for the playmaker, but they must be regretting not signing him now.

Maddison has been in wonderful form since signing for Leicester, and he has claimed five goals and two assists in his first 14 Premier League appearances.

And Spurs scouts must be reflecting on a major error that they made in the summer now, with Maddison thriving at the top level.
