Dusko Tosic played a combined five league games at Portsmouth and QPR – and has been linked with Spurs at the age of 33.
One of the strangest transfer rumours in recent months has emerged from Turkey on Friday morning.
Football Arena reports that Spurs are planning to make a £7 million January move for Besiktas defender Dusko Tosic. The Serbian international has been hugely impressive for the Istanbul giants since arriving from Genclerbirligi 2015, helping the club win successive Super Lig titles.
Tosic also has a great deal of European experience under his belt while his impressive passing ability means he should be a good fit on paper for Spurs’ possession-based gameplan.
It is difficult to ignore the fact, however, that Tosic turns 33 midway through the January transfer window. The versatile defender, who can either play in the centre or on the left, has improved with age but is hardly the young, up-and-coming talent that Tottenham usually go for.
Back to London – seven years on?
And just to make this rumour even more intriguing, Tosic has played in London before. During a loan spell from Werder Bremen in 2010, the experienced defender represented Queens Park Rangers on five occasions.
Though the 2010 World Cup star certainly made a positive impression on then QPR boss Neil Warnock after being made to wait for his debut.
“It was a good performance from Dusko – but if you had seen him in training you would have wondered if they were the same person,” Warnock told GetWestLondon after a 2-0 home win over Crystal Palace. “His work down the left side was excellent.”
Tosic also spent time at Portsmouth but failed to make a single appearance for the south coast club. But could the 20-cap international belatedly make a prolonged impact in England with Tottenham?
