Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly not confident of being able to tie Toby Aldeweireld down with a new deal.

Alderweireld’s future at Spurs is currently up in the air, as he has under 18 months remaining on his deal.
Spurs have the option to extend Alderweireld’s deal by a year, but by doing so they will activate a £25 million release clause, which will surely be met.
Tottenham hope that they can offer Alderweireld a new contract, which will remove this clause in his deal.

Spurs have generally been very quick to move to sort their key player’s futures out, but they are concerned that Alderweireld could let his contract run down.

The centre-back has become renowned as one of the finest defenders in the Premier League, and will surely have to be offered a big pay rise if he is to remain at Spurs.
If Alderweireld was to leave Spurs it would be a major blow to Mauricio Pochettino’s side, as finding a replacement of similar quality would be a huge challenge.
