Leeds United have rejected the chance to take goalkeeper Michel Vorm on loan.
Leeds United have been offered the chance to sign Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Michel Vorm on loan, report The Yorkshire Evening Post.
For reasons not stated, Leeds United have rejected the option, according to the report.
Vorm began his season as Tottenham’s second choice goalkeeper, and featured in both the Premier League, Champions League, and Carabao Cup.
He has since slipped down the pecking order to third choice.
Vorm’s contract at Spurs expires in the summer. He has represented the Netherlands at international level and started last season’s FA Cup semi-final.
Leeds currently have Bailey Peacock-Farrell as their number one, and are in need of new competition after Jamal Blackman suffered a season ending injury.
Why did Leeds reject the move?
Marcelo Bielsa has say in footballing matters, and could have overruled any decision made by technical director Victor Orta.
Vorm is 35 and Bielsa may simply be looking for a younger goalkeeper.
The matter could come down to an issue over wages, with Vorm’s salary too expensive for Leeds.
Bielsa also insisted he did not want to lean on his friendship with Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino to sign players, and the decision could be down to principle.
