Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Alassane Plea could get a boost from a familiar name.

French outlet RMC Sport report Plea’s club Nice have identified his replacement.

Nice reportedly want to sign Las Palmas forward Loic Remy, who played for them between 2008 and 2010 before switching to Marseille.

Remy since played in the Premier League for both Newcastle United, QPR and Chelsea, and was once in Plea’s position, coveted by Tottenham.

Ex-Spurs boss Harry Redknapp said in January 2012, his last transfer window in charge, that he wanted to sign Remy, via BBC Sport.

He ended up with an ageing Louis Saha on a free transfer and Spurs trailed off, missing out on a Champions League spot and Redknapp was subsequently sacked.

Unlike 2012, this time Spurs may get their man with regard to Alassane Plea.

He netted 22 goals last season and can play out wide and up front, complementing star striker Harry Kane.

The further down the track Nice get with their pursuit of Remy, the easier it becomes for Spurs to land Plea.
