Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier scored England’s first goal at Euro 2016.
According to a report in the Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur defensive midfielder Eric Dier has earned the nickname ‘Becks’ through his performances in England training.
Dier has been staying behind with a group of players, who have been practicing free-kicks after training.
The likes of Wayne Rooney, Adam Lallana and Harry Kane have all been competing to be on set-pieces for England, but Dier has impressed with his ability from dead-ball situations.
Dier scored England’s first goal at Euro 2016, by blasting in a set piece during Roy Hodgson’s 1-1 draw with Russia.
The Tottenham man has also been consistently accurate during free-kick practice, leading to comparisons being drawn up between him and David Beckham.
Beckham is arguably England’s finest ever free-kick taker, and the nickname is a huge compliment to Dier’s ability.
Dier has been one of England’s best players at Euro 2016 so far, with the Spurs’ talent’s reputation just increasing by the game.
Dier has played in every one of England’s matches at the international tournament to date, and is one of the first names on Hodgson’s teamsheet.
