According to L’Equipe, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing M’Baye Niang from Rennes in the summer transfer window, but they are facing competition from Andre Villas-Boas’s Marseille.

The French publication has claimed that Tottenham have made initial contact with the 25-year-old forward’s entourage, but the North London outfit cannot offer him much playing time.

The report has added that earlier this year, the Senegal international spoke with former Tottenham manager Villas-Boas over the phone regarding a move to Marseille this summer.

L’Equipe has also claimed that Rennes will not stand in the way of a transfer for the former AC Milan forward.

Stats

According to WhoScored, Niang made 24 starts and two substitute appearances in Ligue 1 for Rennes this season, scoring 10 goals in the process.

The forward also scored one goal in five Europa League matches for the French club this campaign, according to WhoScored.

Need for a forward

Harry Kane is the first-choice striker at Tottenham, but head coach Jose Mourinho needs a back-up, as the England international cannot carry the frontline on his own week in and week out, and Niang would be a good signing this summer.
