According to The Times, Tottenham Hotspur are looking at Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard as a potential replacement for Dele Alli.

It has been reported that Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho is keen on securing the services of Lingard from his former club United.

The report has added that Spurs see the 27-year-old – who can play as an attacking midfielder or as a winger – as ‘a potential replacement for Alli, if they can find a buyer for the 24-year-old’.

The Telegraph reported at the weekend that Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing Alli from Spurs this summer and have opened talks regarding a transfer.

Sensible plan?

Mourinho worked with Lingard when he was in charge of United, and the Portuguese boss will know all about the 27-year-old England international.

One suspects that the Portuguese thinks that he can get the best out of Lingard, who has not always done well for the Red Devils and has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

True, Alli has not progressed over the past two seasons, but the 24-year-old England international midfielder has a lot of potential, and Spurs should give him at least another year.
