Tottenham Hotspur are keen to sign Valencia forward Rafa Mir, according to Super Deporte.
Mir is said to have caught Spurs’ eye during last season’s UEFA Youth League, in which he came up against another of his reported admirers, Celtic.
Super Deporte reports that Valencia are yet to make any attempt to renew the 19-year-old’s contract, which expires at the end of next season and contains a termination clause of around £6.7 million.
It is said that Tottenham see Mir as the perfect fit “to the model of future footballer (with whom) they want to work”, and their plan is to acquire his services before “giving him away” on a short-term basis, as West Ham United have done with the player’s ex-teammate Toni Martinez.
The report adds that while Scottish champions Celtic were keen to add Mir to their senior set up, the player decided to remain with Valencia in pursuit of opportunities there, as per the the orders of then head coach Pako Ayestaran.
However, he has made only eight first team appearances to date – three of which have arrived under current boss Voro.
Celtic’s on-loan winger Patrick Roberts
And while the prospect of working under Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham would likely appeal to Mir, his prospects of securing senior football next season could be brighter at Celtic, with Patrick Roberts’ future uncertain.
Would Mir be a good signing for Tottenham/Celtic?
