Tottenham Hotspur could do with reinforcements at left-back and it appears they’ve found their man with Genoa’s Diego Laxalt.
The fact that Fulham saw no issue with rejecting a £25 million bid from Tottenham Hotspur for Ryan Sessegnon, as reported by the Daily Mail, just shows how determined the Championship side are to keep hold of their 17-year-old wonderkid.
Sessegnon is arguably the most sought-after teenager in English football right now after a remarkable breakthrough season at Craven Cottage. And, with doubts surrounding the future of Danny Rose following that Sun interview, the England Under-19 international looks like a ready-made replacement.
However, with Sky Sports reporting that there is significant interest from Manchester United in Sessegnon, Spurs will know that they face a daunting challenge if Fulham change their stance on the left sider’s future.
Therefore, perhaps this explains why they have joined the race for Genoa left-back Diego Laxalt, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb. The Uruguayan international has been linked with a move to the Premier League all summer, most recently with Newcastle and West Ham, and would cost as little as £13 million.
And, at 24, Laxalt is not quite as young or fresh-faced as Sessegnon but still has plenty of potential and time to improve under the renowned coaching of Mauricio Pochettino.
The former Inter Milan defender, who can also play on the wing and in defensive midfield, has been one of the finest full-backs in Serie A over the last few years and the time appears right for a move to England.
And, despite admitting in April that he was flattered by reported interest from London rivals Chelsea, as quoted by Football Italia, Laxalt would be a fine alternative with Sessegnon unlikely to leave this summer.
