Report: Tottenham Hotspur in discussions to sign Matthijs De Ligt from Ajax

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be keen to bring in Matthijs De Ligt from Ajax this summer.

According to a report in the London Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur are in discussions over the signing of Matthijs De Ligt with Ajax.

Mundo Deportivo have claimed that Spurs will have to break their transfer record to sign De Ligt from Ajax, with the Dutch club demanding £53 million for the centre-back.

But Spurs have not been put off by the demands of the Eredivisie side, and are pushing ahead with their plan to bring the 18-year-old to Tottenham.

Spurs realise that they could be beaten to the punch, if one of Europe’s richest clubs come in for the centre-back, and they are reportedly attempted to get a deal done quickly.

Tottenham are hoping that their past dealings with Ajax will help put them at the front of the queue for De Ligt.

The 18-year-old is being eyed as a potential replacement for Toby Alderweireld, who looks set to leave Spurs this summer.

De Ligt has impressed at both club and international level this term, and is now regarded as one of the most talented youngsters in world football.

Tottenham’s current record signing is Davinson Sanchez, who moved for £42 million last summer.
