Southampton have told Tottenham that they will not accept a swap deal with players, and that they will not sign Kyle Walker-Peter on a permanent contract, according to the report.
The Saints reportedly value the 24-year-old Denmark international midfielder at £35 million.
Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl said this week that Hojbjerg has been stripped off his captaincy for his refusal to sign a new contract, with his current deal running out at the end of next season, as quoted in The Times.
Ambitious for Tottenham Hotspur?
If Southampton value Hojbjerg at £35 million, then it is hard to see them lowering their demand to £20 million, especially if they do not get relegated to the Championship.
True, the Saints would lose the Dane on a free next summer, but he is a very good midfielder who remains an asset for the club.
Of course, just because Southampton value the former Bayern Munich player at £35 million does not mean that the Saints will get that kind of money, but Spurs should be prepared to pay more than the £20 million they reportedly want to.
