As many as nine first team Tottenham players are expected to miss the start of the tour due to their late World Cup involvement, due to heavy representation in the England, Belgium and France squads.
That is an additional reason for Spurs to want a new face in, as well as the benefits of integrating him early and giving supporters a lift.
A new signing will also increase competitiveness within the squad, and Grealish could just be the start.
Spurs have signed nobody yet so far this transfer window, but activity is likely to increase now with the World Cup over.
