Chelsea want to sign Danny Drinkwater from Leicester City in time for their match against Tottenham Hotspur.

According to the Daily Mirror, Chelsea are hoping to rush through a deal for Leicester City’s Danny Drinkwater this week.

Chelsea have already seen one bid turned down for Drinkwater, but they are set to make another offer this week.

Chelsea are eager to bring in a new midfielder, as they feel their current options are short ahead of a crunch match with Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

Chelsea are due to face Spurs at Wembley, and Antonio Conte only has limited choices available to him.

The Blues have seen Cesc Fabregas suspended, while Tiémoué Bakayoko is expected to be out with injury.

Chelsea are now likely to have to push David Luiz in midfield, unless they can get a transfer over the line in the coming days.

And Conte is hoping that Drinkwater can be brought in in time to face Tottenham.

Chelsea were surprisingly beaten by Burnley on opening day, and realise that losing to Mauricio Pochettino side could put them six points behind their London rivals at this early stage of the season.
