Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on Marco Asensio.
According to AS, Tottenham Hotspur enquired about signing Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio this week – but were quoted a ridiculous £617million.
Spurs may have reached the Champions League final under Mauricio Pochettino, but it’s clear that they need major reinforcements this summer – even if they beat Liverpool in next week’s final.
With concerns over Christian Eriksen’s future, Spurs may be looking for another attacking midfielder, especially one who can also play out wide if needed.
Now, AS report that Tottenham have made first contact with Real Madrid about signing Asensio, but it’s safe to say that the Spaniard won’t be heading to North London.
It’s claimed that Real told Spurs that they would have to pay Asensio’s release clause in order to sign him, which stands at a ridiculous €700million (£617million).
Tottenham probably wouldn’t even pay £61.7million for Asensio, never mind £617million, so you can safely rule out the prospect of seeing the 23-year-old in a Spurs shirt.
It’s great that Spurs are showing this kind of ambition, targeting big name players having reached the Champions League final, but this one seems way, way, way beyond Tottenham’s reach.
