Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly about to bid for Leicester City playmaker James Maddison, who is on the radar of Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United as well.

The Northern Echo have reported that Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are interested in signing James Maddison from Leicester City in the summer transfer window.

Leicester, who will play in the Championship next season after getting relegated from the Premier League, want £60 million for the attacking midfielder.

Newcastle do not want to pay that amount.

Spurs believe that Leicester will eventually sell the England international playmaker – described as “a talented and intelligent footballer” by former Tottenham striker Gary Lineker on Twitter in March 2023 – for less than £60 million.

The report has added that “a concrete offer for Maddison is imminent” from Tottenham.

Tottenham Hotspur or Newcastle United for James Maddison?

In our opinion, Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison could find it hard to choose between Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.

True, Newcastle will play in the UEFA Champions League next season, but Tottenham reached the final of the competition in 2019 and regularly challenge for the Premier League top four.

The Magpies have grand plans for the future under PIF, while Tottenham are venturing on a new era under former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou.

Both Tottenham and Newcastle are big and established clubs in the Premier League and have lofty ambitious for the future.
