According to The Evening Standard, Tottenham still hope to sell Paulo Gazzaniga in the New Year.

The ex-Southampton goalkeeper was the subject of interest from both Liverpool and Everton on deadline day, according to talkSPORT (via The Daily Mail).

Gazzaniga currently has to compete with Hugo Lloris and Joe Hart for the No.1 shirt at Spurs.

The former Manchester City glovesman arrived on a free transfer, and The Evening Standard state that his signing should prove to be a profitable one if Gazzaniga is moved on.

Despite only just arriving, it seems like Jose Mourinho might prefer England’s former No.1 to the Argentine. Hart has made two appearances so far this season, both coming in Europa League qualifying.

However, Gazzaniga – who Spotrac say earns £20k-a-week in north London – hasn’t had a single outing yet.

It remains to be seen what happens, although Mourinho has praised the 28-year-old before when describing him as ‘magic’ in December of last year.

ESPN quote the ex-Chelsea boss as saying: ‘Magic hands.

‘My father played in this stadium against Wolves in the UEFA Cup as goalkeeper. He was always telling me, a goalkeeper of a top team had to be different to the others because the goalkeeper of a top team doesn’t have 10 saves to make.’

In terms of those interested in his services, Everton eventually landed Sweden’s No.1 Robin Olsen to compete with the floundering Jordan Pickford.

In Liverpool’s case, they did not recruit a new shot-stopper, and go into the remainder of their campaign with Alisson Becker and Adrian as their senior options.
