Report: Tottenham hoped to scupper Liverpool’s Bobby Duncan deal

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly attempted to sign Bobby Duncan before he completed his move to Liverpool.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Tottenham were amongst the host of clubs that attempted to scupper Liverpool’s move to sign Bobby Duncan this summer.

Duncan has become the Reds’ latest signing during this window, with the Mail reporting that the club will pay Manchester City just £200,000 in compensation. He left the Cityzens last August, but has remained on their books since then and has been training with Wigan Athletic’s first-team.

The Mail reports that he is now Liverpool-bound, but it appears that he had more than enough opportunities to potentially head elsewhere as Spurs, Juventus and Monaco all tried to sign the 17-year-old, who is perhaps best known right now for being Steven Gerrard’s cousin.

Tottenham already have their own incredibly talented striker threatening to fly through in the ranks in Reo Griffiths. The youngster was exceptional last season and will surely be hoping to cement himself in the under-23s next year and perhaps push onto the periphery of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans in the first-team.

It would have been an incredible coup for Spurs had they managed to land Duncan ahead of the Reds and would have given the fans a potential strike force to be seriously excited about for a few years down the line.

Unfortunately for Tottenham however, they have missed out, and Duncan will now be hoping to prove that he deserves to be known for a lot more than just being Steven Gerrard’s cousin at Liverpool – a move that is surely bound to make that task much more difficult for the teenager.
