Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are hoping to sign Everton midfielder Ross Barkley for a bargain fee in the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old midfielder backed out of a move from Everton on the deadline-day, as he wants to reconsider his position when he is fully fit.

According to The Times, Barkley travelled to Chelsea to hold talks on Thursday after a £35 million deal had been agreed between the two clubs.

Barkley has undergone surgery to repair a torn hamstring and he is not expected to return to action until the end of the year.

Everton major shareholder, Farhad Moshiri, is unhappy with Barkley’s situation as he feels it will lower the player’s valuation in January when he will have only six months left on his contract.

The Times reckon that Tottenham Hotspur who have shown great interest in him throughout the summer are expected to return with an offer for Barkley in January.

Barkley would be available on a free transfer next summer, but Everton are more likely to cash in on him during the January transfer window.

Everton were anticipating an offer from Daniel Levy and Tottenham Hotspur, but it didn’t take the shape of a formal bid.

However, with Barkley’s price likely to drop down, Tottenham will have a golden opportunity to land the England international for a bargain price.
