Tottenham have again been linked with a move for Dnipro star Yevhen Konoplyanka.
According to The Sun, Tottenham are hopeful of agreeing a deal to sign Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk winger Yevhen Konoplyanka this week.
Spurs have missed out on a top four spot after a torrid run of just one win in the last six Premier League games, including Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Stoke City.
This poor run means manager Mauricio Pochettino will certainly be looking to strengthen his squad this summer, with a number of positions needing some attention.
Yet, according to The Sun, Pochettino has prioritised landing a winger, with Dnipro star Konoplyanka the player linked with a summer move to White Hart Lane.
The 25-year-old Ukrainian international has impressed with Dnipro and is out of contract this summer, meaning a team will be hoping to land him on a free transfer.
The Sun believe that Tottenham have been trying to strike a deal for the skilful right-footed wide man for some time, but a number of issues have complicated their pursuit.
Dnipro are in the semi-finals of the Europa League, and after a 1-1 draw with Napoli in the first leg, could yet end up in the final, whilst the political situation in Ukraine is also cited as a reason for Tottenham’s inability to close a deal for Konoyplyanka.
However, The Sun now report that Tottenham are hoping to secure a deal for Konoplyanka this week, whether it’s on a free transfer or by paying a fee, with Dnipro looking to sign him to a new contract just to get a transfer fee this summer.
With inconsistent displays from the likes of Erik Lamela and Andros Townsend this season, Pochettino needs another winger at his disposal – and is seemingly hopeful of landing Konoplyanka before the start of next term.
