Tottenham Hotspur are starting to become resigned to the possibility of losing Toby Alderweireld during the summer.

According to a report from the London Evening Standard, Tottenham hope that if they have to sell Toby Alderweireld during the summer, Paris Saint-Germain will come in with a bid for the Belgian.

The London Evening Standard reports that the centre-back has rejected contract offers with Spurs and tensions have risen further as the defender has been declared fit to play by the Belgium coaching staff ahead of their upcoming internationals – despite playing just twice since the turn of the year.

It appears that the situation may be coming to a head this summer, and Spurs are hoping that if they become resigned to losing Alderweireld, it will be PSG who they can sell him to.

The London Evening Standard suggests that Spurs do not want to lose the former Atletico Madrid man to another Premier League side, and would thus, prefer to sell the defender to the Ligue 1 giants, who they have previously dealt with over the deals for Lucas Moura and Serge Aurier.

Shrewd move by Tottenham?

With Alderweireld’s future proving to be a talking point for a considerable period of time, it would arguably be a very good move from Daniel Levy if he is able to sell the centre-back to a club in a different league as the deal is less likely to have a significant impact on Tottenham.

It will be a blow to lose the Belgian, but the damage would certainly be limited if he headed to Parc des Princes rather than to one of their potential title rivals in the Premier League.
