According to France Football, Tottenham Hotspur have not given up on signing Philippe Coutinho, but his likely destination is Newcastle United.
Marca reported on May 31 that Tottenham have opted against signing Coutinho from Barcelona due to his high wages (click here to read more).
However, France Football has claimed that Spurs are keeping the option open, but the French publication has reported that Newcastle could end up winning the race to the signature of former Liverpool attacking midfielder, who is wanted by Everton as well.
The report has claimed that the Brazil international’s entourage strongly believe in the project of the prospective new owners of Newcastle, Saudi Arabia’s PIF.
Tottenham Hotspur or Newcastle United?
It is unlikely that Coutinho – who is on loan at Bayern Munich at the moment – will make a decision on his future anytime soon.
A move to Tottenham would make sense in terms of making an immediate impact, but at Newcastle, Coutinho could be the star of the new era and could make himself a legend at St. James’ Park if he plays a role in the club eventually finishing in the Champions League places.
