According to the London Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur have shelved talks with Son Heung-min over a new contract.
It’s stated that the club’s finances have been decimated by the global pandemic, and all non-urgent contract talks are now on ice for the foreseeable future.
That means a deal for Son – which recently looked imminent – is now off the table as Spurs look to figure out their financial strategy.
Tottenham are allegedly in no rush to secure a new deal with the 28-year-old, and just hope to agree the terms when their financial situation is a little more stable.
Son’s deal would likely take him to around £200,000-a-week, which is a major jump in wages – and one that Spurs seemingly can’t stomach right now.
The South Korean star has hit 12 goals and five assists in 16 Premier League games this season, and his partnership with Harry Kane continues to destroy defences.

Son’s deal doesn’t expire until the summer of 2023, so he still has two-and-a-half years left on his Tottenham contract.
The deal would be secure his future well into his 30’s and reward him for his superb displays, but it may now take a little time to come to fruition.
