Tottenham Hotspur star Erik Lamela is still not available for selection.

Spurs forward Erik Lamela has been missing in action since October 25th due to a mixture of injury problems and personal issues, and the club have taken extreme measures in a bid to get him back to full fitness, both mentally and physically, according to a report from the Guardian.

The 24-year-old Argentine move to White Hart Lane from Roma in the summer of 2013, for a fee believed to be in the region of £30 million, but has never really lived up to his price-tag, despite showing glimpses of his true talent.

And the Guardian report that Lamela is now back with his former club as he continues his recovery, as he felt the change of scenery would benefit his rehabilitation.

Initially, the 24-year-old was not expected to be out of action for too long, but he failed to respond to treatment, before having to return to his homeland in December after his brother was taken to hospital.

But Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is hopeful of having Lamela back to action sooner rather than later, as quoted by the Guardian:

“In a few weeks, he will maybe be available again to be involved in training sessions with the rest of the group. Of course he will play again this season.”

Lamela’s return to the squad would certainly give Pochettino more options in forward areas, but whether or not he can have a positive impact on his side’s title push remains to be seen.
