Report: Tottenham had offer rejected for 24-goal striker before signing Vinicius

Tottenham Hotspur fans are on cloud nine after how well things have gone for them this summer. Spurs have had a fantastic transfer window, and the result at Old Trafford yesterday was just the icing on the cake.

With a few hours left before the window closes, Jose Mourinho’s side could yet bring in another player. However, the business they have already done is really impressive, and that should help them have a real go at a top-four finish this season.

Spurs’ biggest priority in this window was a backup to Harry Kane. Tottenham are not the same without their talisman, and Mourinho learned that the hard way last season when the Englishman was sidelined with a serious injury.

The North Londoners recently announced the signing of Carlos Vinicius from Benfica on a season-long loan. The Brazilian had a stunning season in Portugal last term, where he scored 24 goals and provided 13 assists in all competitions.

Vinicius will provide some much needed support to Kane, but the Benfica man reportedly wasn’t Tottenham’s first choice.

Get French Football News claim today that Tottenham tabled a loan with an obligation to buy offer to French giants Lyon to sign Moussa Dembele last week. The former Celtic man, like Vinicius, scored 24 times last season, but Spurs were unable to lure him in.

The report claims that Daniel Levy tried to negotiate the same deal he did with Real Betis last year for Giovani Lo Celso. That worked out well, with the Argentine a key member of Mourinho’s side at the moment.

However, Lyon had no plans to let their star striker go, especially on loan, this summer. Tottenham, after their failed bid, chose to go with Vinicius, who is also currently on loan.

It will be interesting to see how the Brazilian fares this season. He will almost certainly not be a regular starter in the Premier League. But, if he can perform when he starts in the Europa League or in domestic competitions, Spurs could well choose to sign him permanently next summer.
