News emanating from France this morning suggests that Moussa Sissoko is close to ending his Spurs nightmare, with Marseille closing in on a £22 million deal for the Frenchman, according to French media outlet Le JDD.
The 27-year-old joined Tottenham from Newcastle United in the summer of 2016, for a fee believed to be in the region of £30 million, but he has badly flopped during his time in north London, chipping in with just two assists and zero goals in 34 outings for his club thus far.

And Le JDD now claim that he is close to returning to his homeland, with the Ligue 1 giants reportedly willing to play up to £22 million to secure the midfielder’s services.
That price would represent an £8 million loss for Spurs, but the club’s owners and fans would surely be happy with that, considering how poor the France international has been this season.

That money for Sissoko’s sale could then be invested in a younger, more hungry model, and with Tottenham being linked with a vast array of midfielders from the continent, £22 million would certainly come in handy.
It is quite clear that Mauricio Pochettino realises he made an error with the signing of Sissoko, and the sooner he manages to get him off the books at Spurs the better, as far as their prospects of achieving success next term are concerned.
