According to The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur have failed with a double bid for Wigan Athletic duo Alfie Devine and Jensen Weir.

The Latics announced their intention to head into administration last week, and that means the vultures are circling for their players.

Rumours over the weekend from The Sun suggested that Spurs were hoping to land Wigan attacker Joe Gelhardt alongside midfielder Weir.

Now though, it seems that Spurs have a different double deal in mind. Instead of Gelhardt, it’s midfielder Devine being targeted.

Spurs have allegedly offered to sign the pair, but their first bid – the value of which is unknown – has been snubbed by the crisis club.

Devine, 15, has earned a strong reputation in the Wigan setup, and could earn a swift move to the Premier League with Tottenham if they come back with a new move.

At that age, Spurs would be hoping to develop him over the coming years with a long-term view, but Weir could be seen earlier given that he is 18.

The son of ex-Everton defender David Weir, the teenager is a regular at youth level for England, and could join Harvey White and Oliver Skipp in being midfield talents for the future.

It’s now up to Tottenham to decide whether to go back in with a new bid, but they have to do better if the want to tempt the cash-strapped Latics into a deal.
