Voetbal Nieuws claim Tottenham, Leicester and Manchester City are all battling to sign Club Brugge wonderkid Charles De Ketelaere. The Belgian is shining for his boyhood club – and is rated at a fee of £33.5million.
De Ketelaere, 20, has scored 12 goals in 30 appearances this season. But the Belgium international is more of an attacking midfielder, despite boasting the build of a no.9. His hold-up play is also one of his main attributes.
So much so, that Roberto Martinez called him up to Belgium’s squad earlier this season. He now has four caps for Belgium, even scoring in the UEFA Nations League third-place play-off to Italy, suffering a 2-1 loss.
His performances in the Champions League have caught the attention of Pep Guardiola – but Manchester City are not alone. Indeed, the report claims that Leicester and Tottenham also want to sign the Belgian attacker.
City, Leicester or Tottenham – which is best for De Ketelaere?
Without a doubt, a move to Leicester is his best move. Manchester City have numerous options in the positions De Ketelaere will want to play. His rise and development would only stutter at The Etihad.
He needs to be playing regularly, at the top level. Tottenham would give him plenty of game time, but Antonio Conte’s system does not really include a no.10. Gio Lo Celso, Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele are struggling to play.
So, a move to Leicester would make most sense. Of course, he would be surrounded by fellow Belgians in Youri Tielemans and Timothy Castagne, too. It makes sense, and feels like a Leicester kind of signing.
