According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing up Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez for a summer move amid interest from West Ham United.

Spurs have seen Harry Kane go down with another ankle injury, meaning his season is over, and Fernando Llorente will be playing for a new contract with the club.

Regardless, another striker should be targeted to give Spurs extra firepower in the final third, and a host of attackers have been linked in the last 15 months, since Tottenham last signed a player.

Now, the Daily Mail report that Spurs are now eyeing Celta Vigo striker Gomez, who has hit 11 goals so far this season, and bagged 17 in his debut La Liga campaign last term.

The 22-year-old is a big, physical and aggressive centre forward who could be a real menace off the bench for Spurs, and he has been strongly linked with a Premier League move already.

As reported by the London Evening Standard, West Ham had hoped to sign Gomez for £43.5million on deadline day in August, but shelved the move until the summer, when they should have funds from selling Marko Arnautovic.

However, West Ham’s plan could be ruined, as the Mail’s report claims that Gomez wants to leave for European football next season – something the Hammers look unlikely to have, whereas Spurs will at least be in the Europa League.

Tottenham can swoop in and ruin West Ham’s hopes of finally signing Gomez, and watching him in North London would certainly frustrate many at the London Stadium.
