According to Calciomercato, Tottenham are interested in signing Angel Di Maria on a free transfer, when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires.

What’s the story?

Well, the Argentina international becomes a free agent in June, and Mauricio Pochettino has no intention of keeping him at the Parc des Princes.

Calciomercato believe Spurs have expressed an interest in Di Maria’s situation, and view his availability on a free transfer as a real opportunity.

So far this season, the man PSG signed from Manchester United for £44.3m has struggled for form and fitness, starting just 16 of 33 possible games in Ligue 1.

Di Maria has also scored just three goals in 26 appearances across all competitions.

The 34-year-old struggled in the Premier League during his one season at Manchester United, scoring just four goals in 32 outings.

Angel Di Maria might not be welcome at Tottenham

In our view, the South American risks being booed by Spurs supporters if he completes a move to N17 this summer.

Back in 2014, Di Maria revealed that it “hurt” to see himself linked with a move to Tottenham, suggesting he doesn’t think much of the north Londoners.

As quoted by the Evening Standard, the former Real Madrid winger said: “It hurts when you’re always doing your best for your club and then you hear that you might be going to Tottenham.”

Now, at the age of 34, and with his career dwindling down, he might think differently about a move to Spurs, especially with Antonio Conte in charge.

Nevertheless, even if he has changed his outlook on Tottenham, he may have already burned his bridges with Spurs fans.

Having said that, keep an eye on this saga, as Fabio Paratici has an intriguing track record of snapping up free agents such as Paul Pogba, Dani Alves and Andrea Pirlo.
