According to The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur are still expected to sign Djed Spence despite numerous reports now distancing the London club from a move for the Middlesbrough man.

Indeed, Graeme Bailey stated earlier this week that Spurs were ready to back away from a move for Spence, while The Guardian reported that Middlesbrough were ready to sell their defender to Nottingham Forest instead.

However, the ever-reliable Matt Law is led to believe that a move to Spurs is still very much on the cards for the ‘very strong’ defender, and it may not be long before we see some movement on that front.

Tottenham could certainly do with a new option in that wing-back spot. After all, Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal have been inconsistent to say the least, and it is one of the most important positions in Antonio Conte’s patented 3-4-3 system.

Spence certainly knows how to play as a wing-back. He was a star for Nottingham Forest last term as Steve Cooper deployed a 5-2-3 system, and he would have similar responsibilities at Tottenham, despite the shape being slightly different.

Of course, it remains to be seen just how much Tottenham will have to spend to land the youngster, but it seems as though this one is still moving in the right direction, despite what some other outlets have been reporting.

Spurs have a few problem position to plug this summer, including at left centre-back, but luckily, it looks as though they may soon solve their right wing-back conundrum.
