Tottenham Hotspur are reluctant to sell Harry Winks, amid links with Manchester City, the Daily Mail report.

Tottenham midfielder Winks has been linked with a move to join Pep Guardiola’s side, but it is suggested that Jose Mourinho’s side have no interest in cashing in on the England international.

There were fears when Mourinho came in that Winks may not be suited to the Portuguese boss’s style, even though Mauricio Pochettino was a massive fan and called him ‘amazing’ on the club’s official website in 2019.

However, Winks was a regular pick in Mourinho’s starting line-ups at Tottenham last term, and it seems that he is still considered an important player.

Winks does face more a fight for his place in Tottenham’s team next term, as Pierre Emile Hojbjerg has arrived.

But he remains the finest passer of a football in Tottenham’s midfield, and he has a skill-set which isn’t really similar to many of their other options.

Winks is happy operating as a deep-lying playmaker, but most Spurs’s other options in the area prefer playing further forward or as a box-to-box midfielders.

If Spurs were to sell Winks to City it could prove to be a bad mistake, as the 24-year-old has qualities which could make him ideally suited to Pep Guardiola’s side.

And it seems that keeping him around is a smart strategy for Spurs, as they plot to get back into the top four next campaign.
