Spurs were linked with the Real Sociedad defender in November and reported new Premier League interest is from sides “not in Europe”.

Reported one-time Tottenham Hotspur target Diego Llorente is being courted by a number of Premier League clubs this summer, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.

The Real Sociedad centre-back, capped four times by Spain, has been on the Basque club’s books since making the switch from Real Madrid in the summer of 2017.

Since swapping the Bernabeu for the Anoeta, Llorente has made 57 appearances for Sociedad in all competitions, including 23 outings last season.

Mundo Deportivo has commented on prior reported interest by Tottenham from November, as well as from the likes of Liverpool and West Ham, whilst saying that “various teams” from the Premier League have been in touch with the player’s agent.

Although Llorente is reported to have has a 50 million Euro (£45million) release clause in his contract, it is believed that the English clubs interested in him may look to bid in the region of 25m Euro (£22.5million).

One thing to bear in mind, however, is that according to the report, “none of the clubs that have surveyed the player will play the next European competition campaign”.

As noted on Transfermarkt, the Spaniard’s main position is at centre-back but he can play at right-back, something he did earlier in his career, and with Kieran Trippier having left Spurs and Toby Alderweireld’s future still in doubt for now, Tottenham would have an advantage in being able to offer him what the other clubs said to be interested in him cannot.

Nonetheless, if Spurs do register an interest, they could find themselves potentially vying with Real Madrid themselves, as Los Blancos could also theoretically sign Llorente for £22.5million due to the 50 percent sell-on clause they inserted into his contract as part of the 2017 transfer.
