According to the Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur have decided against a move for Roma playmaker Nicolo Zaniolo because of his huge price tag.
It’s claimed that Spurs held talks about a swap deal with Roma last summer, which would have seen Zaniolo join Tottenham and Toby Alderweireld head in the opposite direction.
The deal ended up falling through, and Alderweireld later signed a new deal with Spurs. Still, Tottenham appear keen on signing Zaniolo anyway.
Zaniolo could be available this summer, with Roma needing to raise funds. However, Spurs think the £62million asking price is far too much.
That means a deal won’t be pursued by Tottenham – especially as Jose Mourinho would like a more defensively-minded midfielder to join.
Zaniolo, 20, has hit 12 goals and five assists in 60 games since joining Roma in 2018. He has though missed most of this season with a cruciate ligament injury.

Capable of playing as a number 10 or in from the right flank, Zaniolo looks to be a real talent for the future.
He won’t be heading to Spurs any time soon though, with Tottenham in no position to be splashing £62million in light of the global pandemic.
