Sergio Reguilon is enduring a dismal time on loan at Atletico Madrid from Tottenham this season and now, Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo claim Spurs do not have him in their plans next term – and neither do Diego Simeone’s side.
Reguilon, 26, has managed just five outings for Atleti since his loan move to the club from Spurs last summer. It comes after just two years at Spurs prior, playing just 67 games in both league and cup. He has a contract at Spurs until 2025.
Having returned from injury at Atleti, he has managed five outings in all competitions. But, has found himself back on the bench and since picked up another issue. The report from Spain now gives a clue – or lack of it – on his future.
Indeed, they report that Atletico Madrid have made a decision on signing Reguilon permanently. Simply, they are not going to do so – while Spurs do not see Reguilon as part of their squad for next season. He cost Spurs a fee of £32m.

Tottenham do not have Reguilon in plans and neither do Atletico Madrid
So, what next for Reguilon? Well, in the immediate short-term, all Reguilon can do is get himself fit and try to show in the remaining fixtures of the season – to potential other parties – what he can do. Failing that, he will return to Spurs.
Then, it will be about Spurs trying to offload him. Signed by Jose Mourinho, Reguilon was one of four players cast aside by Antonio Conte. Along with Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Winks and Gio Lo Celso. Reguilon will be in the same boat.
On return, Reguilon will find himself behind Ryan Sessegnon, Ivan Perisic and the returning Destiny Udogie – who was signed by Spurs and immediately sent back on loan to Udinese, where he is shining. So, Reguilon’s future is in doubt.
